Pure electric vehicles have gradually become the development direction of future vehicles, but the mileage and charging speed have always been an insurmountable barrier, and the emergence of charging roads can be said to provide a perfect solution. Various countries have been trying to build them for a long time, but the previous ideas or construction have been difficult to popularize due to cost, maintenance, man-made destruction and some technical problems, and ended without success.
At the end of last year, stellantis, the world’s fourth largest automaker, announced on its official website that their innovative dynamic induction charging technology had been proved successful after years of research and months of testing, and the highway “arena del Futuro” for automotive wireless charging test was officially opened.
This project is jointly developed by stellantis, some international public institutions and well-known universities. It aims to create conditions for the development of innovative zero emission systems to promote the flow of people and goods along the highway transportation corridor.
The realization of wireless charging is through the dynamic wireless power transmission (DwPT) technology, which can charge the electric vehicle (EV) wirelessly when it passes through the special road lane with special equipment. DwPT is a coil system under the asphalt, which can directly transmit the energy to all vehicles equipped with special receivers, such as cars, trucks and buses, so that the electric vehicle can realize wireless charging. At the same time, the charging section can also be connected with the vehicle through IOT technology to improve the accuracy of auto driving, and the road surface is also optimized, which is more durable and does not affect the use of wireless charging.
The arena del Futuro test shows that battery electric vehicles such as Fiat new 500 equipped with the test system can run at normal speed without consuming the energy of the vehicle battery. And the energy flow efficiency from asphalt to cars is equivalent to that of fast charging stations. In addition, the measurement of magnetic field strength proves that it will not have adverse effects on drivers and passengers.
In fact, charging kilometers is not a new technology. In 2013, the United States tried to lay solar panels on roads to build power generation roads to power traffic signs and electric vehicles. In 2017, Sweden also built a charging road. In 2016, France launched a 1-kilometer-long photovoltaic road. Is it reliable that the only wheel network has built so many charging roads all over the world? Are introduced in the article. There are also charging roads using “shape magnetic resonance” technology in South Korea and electromagnet “wireless charging” roads in Israel. Charging roads have developed to varying degrees in other countries.
It is not technically difficult to build charging roads, but the cost is still too high at this stage, and the durability of roads is not as good as ordinary roads. However, charging highway is definitely a particularly promising technology, which should gradually become a reality in the future. At that time, there is no need to worry about the charging range of electric vehicles.
