Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that from 2023, electric scooters can be operated in 11 new areas in Dubai.
New areas: Al Tawar 1, Al Tawar 2, UMM Suqeim 3, Al Garhoud, Muhaisnah 3, UMM Hurair 1, Al Safa 2, Al Barsha South 2, Al Barsha 3, Al Quoz 4, Nad Al Sheba 1
The above area includes 10 public transport stations and 18 places where residents often go, such as parks and commercial outlets. They will provide services for 114000 residents, solve their first and last mile travel problems, and reduce residents’ dependence on private cars.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Executive Board of RTA, said: “The roads in these areas are being renovated, including ground markings, direction signs and speed limits (from 40 km/h to 30 km/h), to ensure the safety of riders.
Next year, the number of areas allowed to ride electric scooters in Dubai will increase to 21, and the dedicated roads for bicycles and electric scooters will increase from 185 km to 390 km.
